Note
Charles A. Mausey was a flag bearer for his company and the flag he carried was shot full of holes. A flag bearer was one who lead the charge in battle. He was the front man. Margaret his wife, was buried in this flag. His Civil War records maybe obtained by writing to National Archives Trust Fund Washington, D. C.

Charles A. Mausey was discharged from the Army on May 2, 1864 at Jefferson Barrack Missouri which is located in St. Louis, Missouri. He enlisted in the Army on August 14, 1861. He was in Company "D" 29th Illinois regiment of the United States Infantry by S. Whiting.

Charles William Mausey, Charles A. son tells the story when his father was discharged they had to get home the best they knew how. He walked from St. Louis, Missouri to Ridgeway, Illinois. He did not notify his family that he would be coming home, when he arrived at the home he was wearing a beard. His wife Margaret, did not reconize him, she had been milking the cow and when he came up, he put his arms around her. She was very upset, this strange man was getting very fresh with her so she began hitting him with the milk pail.

Note
Charles A. Mausey was captured by the southern army at Holly Springs December 20,1862. He received a gunshot wound in the right hand the ball taking off his right thumb in the following manner. I had just been released from guard of about 5 minutes about 12 O clock at night, a very cold night and came in to the camp fires and was standing near the fire warming myself when the wind blew the fire against the lock of my gun the same at once discharged its load the ball firing through my righthand as described. This was on his application fora pension. He had also lost his right leg in 1872 but not in the United States Service.
